Kirinda

Historical Background
 
In 2nd century BC Ceylon ( Island) was invading by sea water (like tsubami), peoples were saying to avoid such disaster kings bood should sacrifies to sea. Then King Kelanitissa ordered his youngest daughter princess Vihara Maha devi to sacrifices her life to sea. Princes Vihara Maha Devi got in to a small boat  as a sacrifice. Then waters were calmed and the princess mysteriously survived and landed to Kirinda.
 Kirinda is located at Down South of Sri Lanka.



Best Months to watch Kirinda

It is Dificult to watch Kirinda in rain seasons. Most rainfall is seen in October, November and December. Except these rain seasons other moths are good for watch kirinda.
The warmest month is April and the coolest month is January.



Distance and How to travel to kirinda

Shotest route
Though Ratnapura – Udawalawe – Thanamalwila - Kirinda
distance : 236 km
Time required to travel : 5 - 6 hours

Other route
 Though : Galle – Matara – Hambantota - Kirinda
distance : 280 km
Travel time : 6 hours

By bus
You can take a bus  from Colombo to  Tissa. But this buses are not air conditioned. But If you want to travel by air conditioned buses you have to travel from colombo to Matara and from there one none AC bus to Tissa. 

Easy and comfortable way to reach Kirinda
 You Can keep kirinda as secondary option. That mean first you can visit katharagama and then can visit kirinda. Katharagama to kirinda is only 30 Km.From Colombo to katharagam can find good A/C buses through southern highway about cost USD 6 (Rs 900).

Diyaluma Waterfall


Diyaluma is the 3rd highest waterfall in Sri Lanka.  Its hight is approximately 170M from the sea level. 

The waterfall is located along the Koslanda to Welawaya road in the Badulla District.
 From  Koslanda town to waterfall distance is approx 6 Km, and from waterfall to  Welawaya distance is 13km.



If you are planning a trip along the wallawaya, buttala and katharagam diyaluma is a place you must visit. 

 Myth Stories and Legends

 

Myth story tells that woman belonging to a lower caste and  king had love. Since king cant continue love with lover cast women they deiced to run away. They came to area where the waterfall currently exist and tried to climb the mountain. King could made it but the women couldn't do it. women fallen down from the hill and died. King  was so upset and it says that the tears fallen from the kings eyes are fallen as the waterfall.





When should visit Diyaluma waterfall

Diyaluma waterfall is more beautiful in rainy seasons. The best moth to see waterfall is October since it is the month has best rainfall. Other rainfall moths are January, April, May, June, July, August, September. If you like coolest climate August is the best month. If you like warmest climate April is the best month to see the waterfall.

Distance and How to reach Diyaluma waterfall

From Colombo to Diyaluma waterfall distance is approx 190 Km and it is 5 hour and 30 min.

Bus fare from Colombo to Wellawaya is around USD 3 and from wellawaya to waterfall its only 13 Km and you can find another bus at cheep rate. If you need more comfortable you can hire a tuk tuk from wellawaya to waterfall around USD 8 to 10.

If you get a hired vehicle (Car or Van) from Colombo to Diyaluma Waterfall it will cost about  approx USD 80.

Buses are available at morning to late evening from Colombo to Wellawaya. times from

Security Measures

It is advice not to bath from the waterfall since stones can fall with the water.
